Heart FM Discover Just How Charming The Heart Of The Midlands In KwaZulu-Natal Is!

If you missed our socials, don’t worry! We’re going to tell you all about the extraordinary weekend we had with the Heart Squad and Lunga from Heart FM when we visited the Midlands in KwaZulu-Natal. An area which promises an enchanting trip not only in summer but during every season!

We checked in to the Anew Hotel in Hilton, a four-star hotel promising the very best of old-world charm and an atmosphere that completely matches our KwaZulu-Natal countryside. Situated on the doorstep of the iconic Midlands Meander, not only will you be treated to excellent service, but you can admire the architectural design of this hotel which resembles the most authentic Tudor style country estate. Can you picture it? It’s the perfect country getaway for families, friends and it pairs perfectly with a romantic getaway too!

If you’re needing to stop for a bite and country wholesome food made from local produce tickles your fancy, pay a visit to the Yellowwood Café, situated on Farm Fairell. It was here we started our journey with a quick bite whilst taking in the scenic views of Howick Falls. It’s the perfect family pit-stop, offering kids play facilities, miniature animals, and a small bike track to keep the kids busy. Get away from it all and enjoy the fresh air and quiet surroundings that bring a certain kind of peace to your soul.

KwaZulu-Natal is proud to be home to one of our country’s most iconic historic places – the Nelson Mandela Capture Site. Situated in Howick, this museum commemorates the life of Nelson Mandela, our former president and freedom fighter. With a structure made out of steel bars which form the side profile of Nelson Mandela’s face, this marks the spot that Mandela was captured by the police on the 5th of August 1962, before he spent the next 27 years of his life in prison. The Visitors Centre allows for one to become immersed in the history and life of this miraculous man, with audio visual presentations and displays on offer.

Now for the foodies… satisfy that sweet tooth at Chocolate Heaven on the Midlands Meander. Indulge in a chocolate dipping experience like no other! From sweet to savoury and everything in between, test out your more adventurous eating side if you dare… but don’t worry, it’s still going to be delicious! Or, if the sugar high is a little too much for you, spend the day enjoying an incredible experience of wine tasting at Highgate Wine Estate. Find out how some of our locally produced wines are made. Smell the different aromas and taste the subtle flavours. Not only is this an experience of a lifetime, but Highgate Wine Estate promises a stunning venue to just take in and enjoy.

Seeking the thrill? The Karkloof Canopy Tour consists of 12 platforms and 10 zip-line slides, with the longest zip-line being a whopping 200m! Soar above the canopies at a pace that gets your blood rushing! It’s probably one of the best ways to see the Midlands from a birds-eye view!

So, you see… there really is something for everyone in the Midlands in KwaZulu-Natal! No matter what your preferences are, your age or your budget, the Midlands offers activities to make long-lasting memories.

Tourism KwaZulu-Natal encourages all travelers to adhere to Covid-19 safety protocols and to get vaccinated before travel. Tourism is open, and we’d love to have you here.
