KwaZulu-Natal gives you plenty of options for a beak away from the city

Tired of the constant deadlines? Feeling like a corporate zombie in need of a reinvigorating experience?

Look no further than the beautiful and vast province that is KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). Offering that much needed escape from the concrete jungle, KZN provides a gush of fresh air and a type of nirvana that can only be found here.

Deeply immersed in South African history, The Giants Castle Game Reserve in Ukhahlamba Drakensberg Park transports you to yesteryear where you can gaze upon large sandstone caves that contain prehistoric San Rock Art which tell a story of a time untouched by modern technology. The Giants Castle Game Reserve also offers various outdoor activities which guests can engage in while marveling at the vast green pastures that surround them.

Going up further we find the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park is one of KwaZulu-Natal’s two World Heritage Sites. The uKhahlamba-Drakensberg World Heritage Site is also part of a larger collaborative conservation initiative between South Africa and the neighbouring Kingdom of Lesotho called “The Maloti-Drakensberg Transfrontier Conservation and Development Project”. In the park itself, hiking along the footpaths through the mountains, camping in caves or stopping to picnic and taking a dip into the rock pools with tumbling streams and cascading waterfalls are just some of the great pleasures of a visit to the beautiful uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park.

Make your way to Maputaland, home to the Tembe Elephant Park where you can look forward to seeing not only the largest animals on land but also the largest of those animals that can only be found in KZN. Remotely located to give you a deeper connection to the natural environment, the park lies deep within the sand forests and wetlands and gives guests the opportunity to see the rest of the Big Five.

If it’s a quick escape near to a city that you’re looking for, why not visit Zulu Nyala Private Game Reserve. The reserve provides a unique bush experience in the heart of one of South Africa’s most diverse conservation regions. Nestled between the wilderness reserves of Mkuze, Hluhluwe, St. Lucia and Sodwana Bay, this lush stretch of paradise is home to a wide variety of game, from the majestic elephant to rhino, buffalo, hippo, giraffe the secretive leopard and cheetah and the shy Nyala antelope that are endemic to the region.

KwaZulu-Natal truly has it all and it is ready to give you the perfect escape that you need.
