Take a walk on the wild side at Monkeyland-KZN. As you leave behind the sugar cane fields and step inside the sanctuary’s “hidden forest” with your guide, you may feel like you’re entering Jurassic Park. Then you spot a troop of ring-tailed lemurs up ahead, maybe you’ve been transported to Madagascar, will you be able to resist the temptation to sing ‘I like to move it move it”? Walk a little further and maybe you’ll find the Black Howler Monkeys or Capuchin Monkeys, indigenous to South America. This sanctuary provides a safe forever home for eight species of exotic primate who all roam freely in the forest. Monkeyland-KZN is a true sanctuary, which means that you may photograph but not touch.
You should allow around 2 hours in total as you’ll spend at least an hour in the forest, probably a little more as we never know where we’re going to find the monkeys and we’re never in a rush to leave the forest! We recommend comfortable, closed-in shoes for the forest and mosquito repellent. There is a large, secure parking area at the reception site as well as a children’s jungle gym and prayer room. Our restaurant is currently closed but there are snacks and drinks available at the gift shop and you are welcome to bring a picnic to enjoy before or after your tour.
