Our village is perched on the second highest peak of the escarpment-siHlutankungu Hill-after which it is named. The winds that rush up from the sea are flush with water and condense at this high altitude. This results in a blanket of mist resting languidly over the peak and the surrounding valley. Legend has it that travelers through this damp environment had to pluck their way through the mist as if plucking feathers-this is the meaning of Hlutankungu.
